Pivot: High School Blueprint for Age 13

Transform transition anxiety into actionable agency and high school confidence.

5th Avenue

Service Description

Pivot is a proactive, nonclinical mental health and resilience workshop designed for youth navigating the transition into high school. This trauma-informed, prevention-focused program equips incoming freshmen with the emotional scaffolding, social literacy, and practical coping tools needed to thrive amid increased academic pressure, shifting social dynamics, and new environments. Rather than waiting for burnout or mental health crises to occur, Pivot steps in early. The transition to high school is one of the most significant life shifts a teenager faces, often triggering spikes in anxiety, isolation, academic dread, and identity confusion. This workshop normalizes these challenges, transforming anxiety into actionable agency. It creates a vibrant, collaborative peer space where youth realize they are not alone in their fears and provides the blueprint to navigate change with confidence. Throughout the program, participants engage in scenario-based roleplay, stress-mapping, media literacy, creative journaling, and peer-led problem-solving. The curriculum focuses on core pillars: stress and nervous system regulation, digital wellness and social media boundaries, breaking the perfectionism cycle, assertiveness and friendship navigation, and building a self-advocacy toolkit. Youth explore critical questions: How do I handle a failing grade without losing my self-worth? How do I spot a toxic friendship? How do I advocate for my mental health with teachers and parents? Sessions balance high-energy connection with grounding practices. Youth learn biofeedback techniques, quick mindfulness resets for test anxiety, and practical time-management habits. Grounded in cultural responsiveness and peer support, the workshop ensures every youth feels seen and validated. Participation is voluntary, confidential, and judgment-free, focusing on collective community care over clinical diagnosis. Participants graduate from Pivot with a personalized "Mental Health Playbook" featuring real-world coping mechanisms, communication scripts, and self-care resources. They leave with elevated self-awareness, stronger relational skills, and the quiet confidence to take up space in their new high school. Pivot is a protective barrier against the pressures of tomorrow, ensuring youth enter high school feeling anchored, capable, and ready.

Camera Rules Cameras must stay ON during the entire session so we can protect the group and make sure everyone is really who they say they are. If you need to step away, you must tell the facilitator in chat or on camera before leaving. You can only be away for up to 10 minutes. If your camera is off and you ignore two reminders from the facilitator, you will be removed from the session for safety reasons. Frequent lateness, disruptive behavior, or ignoring these rules will lead to removal from the group and may impact your ability to join future programs. By joining our group, you agree to follow these rules. Repeated or serious violations will result in being removed from the group, and we will notify your guardian or case manager if needed. We want this space to feel good for everyone — let’s keep it safe, focused, and supportive!
